Learn How To Do The Mind Reading Card Magic Trick

You’re probably starting to realize by now that you’ll need several different decks to perform all the tricks that you’d like to for your audience. If you have a gimmick deck, you’ll need to keep it separate from the rest of the decks so you don’t confuse them. This trick is a great one to start off with, as the only gimmick is in the box, so by placing the box somewhere out of view after you’ve finished, you’ll have a full deck to continue on to other tricks with.

Effect:

From out of your pocket, you reveal and empty a deck of cards. Holding the case in your hand, you pass the deck of cards to your participant for them to shuffle and mix up as they see fit while you keep your eyes closed. Simply inform them that when they are ready, they should examine the bottom card of the deck and show it to the audience. Once they have done that, ask the participant to place the deck of cards back into the case that you’re holding.

At this point, you have opened your eyes, and after much concentration with the deck placed against your forehead, you’ve determined exactly what the card is that your participant has chosen. Opening the case case, you remove the deck of cards and flip it over to reveal the card that you have just called out.

Materials Required:

All you need for this trick is one full deck of cards and a case that you will modify with scissors.

Preparing For The Trick:

You will need to cut a corner out of the boxes bottom to reveal what card your participant has selected. Make sure that the side you select is the one without the flap attached to it and cut a small square out of the side opposite of the opening on the bottom. You’ll want the cut to be a smooth and inconspicuous as possible and also make sure that you can actually see the cards identification when you place the deck of cards back inside the case.

What’s The Secret?:

Throughout the entire performance, you must make sure that the hole you have cut stays face down or facing towards you. Revealing that hole will ruin the entire trick.

Remove the deck of cards and hand them to your audience. For there, you simply keep your eyes closed and the case with the hole facing down. That way, when the participant is done with going through the cards, they’ll most likely place them face down so you can’t see them even though your eyes are closed.

When you open your eyes, you will flip the deck towards your forehead and slowly bring it up. You should be able to catch the index of the card so you know exactly what your participant has picked. After focusing all your might on reading your participants card, say the name out loud and empty the deck onto the table. Flip over the card and reveal it to the rest of the audience.
