French Drop - How To Vanish A Coin

Learn How To Do The French Drop Coin Vanish

Following the tutorial below or the video above will teach you how to do the French Drop. Learning the French Drop isn’t difficult, but perfecting this sleight of hand will take some time.

  • Take your coin and hold it in your dominant hand between your thumb and index finger. Your hand should be palm up and either heads or tails of the coin will be facing straight up with your fingers on the ridge sides.
  • Bring in your other hand as if you were going to pick the coin out of your dominant hand’s fingers.
  • Instead of actually picking the coin up with your other hand, as you go in to grab it, drop the coin into the palm of your dominant hand and close your other hand into a fist. This will give the illusion that you have made the transfer when the coin is actually still in your dominant hand.

    Great Question!

Originally the French Drop was called “Le Tourniquet Vanish” which literally translates to “The Vanish Swivel”. But as magic migrated across the world, magicians of other languages began to simply refer to it as the French Drop because it came from France and you have to drop the coin to do it.
